Oh my goodness mammas! I just created the most amazing peanut butter and chocolate lactation bars. Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter!? And then add some oats, and brewers yeast to *possibly* boost milk production. Use dates and walnuts to make a dough to make this gluten free.

So many of the lactation cookies out there are loaded with processed sugar, trans fats, and hydrogenated oil (which explains why those store bought lactation cookies have a long shelf life…). I wanted to make something that was healthy, but also delicious.

Now, just because I call these lactation bars, they are still cookies and this doesn’t mean you should indulge. I also want to make the disclaimer, that consuming these bars alone, will not magically increase your breastmilk. You MUST remove that breastmilk from your breasts by either nursing or pumping FREQUENTLY and EFFICIENTLY. That is what really boosts your milk supply. The more frequently and efficiently you remove that breast milk, the more your body will produce. You can eat all the ‘lactation’ cookies, bars, smoothies, herbs, supplements, teas in the world, but if your milk isn’t being removed by either nursing or pumping EFFICIENTLY, then it’s not going to do much.

These bars are filled with a variety of nuts and seeds as well as coconut oil, which helps with baby’s brain development. They also have cocoa powder, which is filled with antioxidants, and the oats and brewers yeast are galactagogues, which may help with milk production.

So what’s in these lactation bars that may help with milk production and what makes them “healthy”?
